Would they survive a long period of service?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row content_text_aligment=&#8221;left&#8221; row_background_lines=&#8221;no&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"title\">Abstract<\/h3>\n<div id=\"enc-abstract\" class=\"abstract-content selected\">\n<div id=\"enc-abstract\" class=\"abstract-content selected\">\n<p>There is increasing evidence to support the use of short dental implants in the rehabilitation of missing teeth with implant-supported prostheses.<span class=\"dropBlock reference-citations\"><a id=\"body-ref-sbref0005-1\" class=\"reference-citations__ctrl\" role=\"doc-biblioref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bjoms.com\/article\/S0266-4356(19)30070-1\/abstract#\" data-xml-rid=\"bib0005\" aria-label=\"Reference 1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" data-db-target-for=\"sbref0005-1\" aria-controls=\"sbref0005-1\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0Although splinting is not possible with a single-unit implant, several studies have documented good clinical outcomes in the short-term that favour the use of short implants to support single-tooth restoration.<span class=\"dropBlock reference-citations\"><a id=\"body-ref-sbref0010\" class=\"reference-citations__ctrl\" role=\"doc-biblioref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bjoms.com\/article\/S0266-4356(19)30070-1\/abstract#\" data-xml-rid=\"bib0005 bib0010\" aria-expanded=\"false\" data-db-target-for=\"sbref0010\" aria-controls=\"sbref0010\"><sup>1,2<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0In 2002, we treated three patients, who were 44, 40, and 51-years-old, and were missing either a premolar or molar. They each had an implant 8.5\u2009mm long, with surgical abutment in place, and non-submerged healing was allowed. A porcelain-fused-to-metal crown was cemented on to the post of the abutment.
