Cureus. 2023 Jan 1;15(1):e33237. This review aims to explore the plausibility of new theories on the etiopathogenesis of marginal bone loss (MBL) and peri-implantitis (PI) and to discuss possible underlying pathogenic mechanisms. The former concept of osteointegration of dental implants can now be conceptualized as a foreign body response histologically characterized by a bony demarcation in combination with chronic inflammation. Different risk factors can provoke additional inflammation and, therefore, pro-inflammatory cytokine release in soft tissues and bone, leading to an overpass of the threshold of peri-implant bone defensive and regenerative capacity.

Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2023 May;43(2):232-239b. Short dental implants are an alternative to surgical bone augmentation procedures and the placement of longer implants. The high predictability of short implants has encouraged clinicians to load them immediately. However, there are few studies assessing the influence of immediate vs delayed loading of short (< 8 mm) implants. The purpose of this retrospective study was to report the mid-term (5-year) outcomes (survival and marginal bone loss [MBL]) of immediate vs delayed loading of short implants.

Bioengineering (Basel). 2022 Oct 21;9(10):597. The objective of this systematic review is to assess the effect of the adjuvant use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and its type on new bone formation by anorganic bovine bone during maxillary sinus floor augmentation procedure

Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2022 Sep-Oct;42(5):683-689. The high biomechanical loads in molar region wounds challenge the indication for short implants to be used as a single-unit implant. This study reports on the outcomes of single-unit short implants (≤ 8.0 mm) in the maxillary and mandibular molar regions. Forty-nine short implants were placed in 48 patients to replace a missing molar tooth.

Cureus. 2022 Jul 6;14(7):e26623. Nowadays, infertility problems affect a high percentage of couples. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF-Endoret, hereafter PRGF) as a promising coadjuvant therapy in assisted reproductive techniques and its possible role in implantation and pregnancy rates. This retrospective study included 36 PRGF cycles in 27 women with one of the following reproductive disorders: recurrent implantation failure (n = 16), repeated abortion (n = 8), and thin endometrium (n = 3).

Dent J (Basel). 2022 May 6;10(5):77. The application of the counter-torque technique has been proposed as a conservative and atraumatic alternative for the explantation of nonmobile dental implants. The objective of this report is to assess the performance of this technique in a large number of patients.
